Scion Program Offers Career Building Opportunity

Scion launched its new program, Motivate, targeting young entrepreneurs in the creative arts community with chances to win a personal business mentor, $10,000 and a Scion vehicle to promote career success. Building on the recently launched Scion “What Moves You” brand campaign, applicants between the ages of 18 and 35 are invited to submit written responses and a 60-second video describing career passions and the resources needed to achieve their goals.

Applications are accepted beginning today at www.scion.com/motivate until Jan. 31, 2013, or until 5,000 applications have been received. 50 semi-finalists will be selected to attend a three-day workshop with industry leaders to learn essential skills they can use to improve their businesses. Top winners have their choice of any Scion vehicle as part of the prize package. Runners-up each will be given a $1,000 grant.

The Motivate program will be supported with TV, print and online ads that begin appearing today on key lifestyle- and business-targeted media platforms across the country. Deltawing Accident at Petit Le Mans

After so much controversy about this car being able to make appropriate turns and after so many test that were ran to be able to run this car on the track, we find out that there has been yet another accident.

This Wednesday driver Gunnar Jeannette was injured in the Road Atlanta crash. The Nissan Delta Wing was stuck in the rear left by a Porsche just as they passed a bridge at the circuit. The car then rolled over until it hit the inside of the wall, after the car had finished rolling the car, Gunnar throws his hands in the air, as if he’s asking  the Porsche driver “why, why?”

From the video that was posted, you can see that the Porsche slightly grazed it a tiny bit, but enough to throw the Deltawing into a huge spill.

To add a little bit of light to this story, the car finished 6^th fastest at the end of the day and we are expecting its return to the track. Nissan’s Deltawing is ground-breaking in the racing world, Its half the weight, horsepower and aerodynamics and drag of a typical race car which allows it to burn less fuel and require few tire changes.

MINI on the Charles River

MINI creates a sea worthy MINI convertible for the head of the Charles Regatta, attendees in Cambridge will be in for a sight that they weren't expecting. A nice red MINI convertible boat motoring along the Charles river, this MINI was built as a part of MINI USA Eastern Region's interpretation of Not Normal.

HOCR racing will take place on Saturday and Sunday (October 20 and 21) from 8 AM to 5 PM. This is the first year that MINI USA is an official sponsor of the HOCR.  Since its origin in 1965, the HOCR has welcomed the world’s best crew teams to the banks of the Charles River for the ultimate two-day rowing competition. Teens Stay Safe Behind the Wheel

As parents there are many many concerns when you have kids and when they get behind a wheel of an automotive vehicle. This is why Toyota and Discovery Education today announced that the Toyota Teen Driver Video Challenge and Toyota Teen Driver Educators’ Challenge are now open for entries. These challenges invite teens and their teachers to share their most creative ideas to help promote teen safe driving habits.  Entries for both programs are due by Feb. 14, 2013.

Research shows that 35% of all teen deaths are a result of car crashes -- more than cancer, suicide, heart disease and homicide combined. To address this challenge, Toyota and Discovery Education teamed up in 2010 to create Toyota Teen Driver, a comprehensive program and online destination providing safe-driving tools and resources to educators, students and parents.

“At Toyota, we are deeply committed to the notion that everyone deserves to be safe,” said Patricia Salas Pineda, Toyota’s group vice president of National Philanthropy and the Toyota USA Foundation.  “We are glad to be working with Discovery Education to bring critical safety information to schools and students across the country.  This is an important commitment for Toyota and a vital part of our efforts to help ensure that drivers and passengers are safe at every phase of life.”

Build a Motorcycle Using Naked Human Models

Take a closer look at this naked human motorcycle using human models and body paint. They use a lot of bodies and a ton of work to get these bodies to look the way they do. The images are inspired by sport bikes, dirt bikes, cruisers.

Yoga guru's and body painters were hired to create these amazing forms to be able to create a unique style of racy figures. This style of art is modern, contemporary and I think that they did a great job in showing what the passion of the industry and what its all about.

The New Invader TR-3 Open Cockpit Roadster

This year’s SEMA Show will be the site for the unveiling of two new production models of Tanom Motors highly anticipated Invader – signature special edition Sammy Hagar “Red Rocker TC-3 Coupe and the topless TR-3 roadster.These two new models represent an exciting one-of-a-kind fusion of super bike and super car. The Invader’s unique high performance reverse trike design, features two steering front wheels and one rear drive wheel, both the Invader TC-3 and TR-3 provide comfortable side-by-side seating for two with mind-bending performance, wrapped in a body design that is unlike anything on the road.  

Both the TR-3 and TC-3 feature a frame constructed from one-and-a-half-inch tubular steel with a front crash zone, triangulated side protection bars and a complete roll-cage surrounding the cockpit. Toyota Tundra Makes History Towing Space Icon

This event has put the city of champions on the map. If you were there from when this massive beast was crossing the bridge you would of captured amazing images. Randy's donuts was in the background as this beast got stuck while it passed through Manchester blvd. It took the crew a few hours to get a post out of the way for the space shuttle to be able to go through. 

Toyota Tundra half-ton pickup truck without any special modifications successfully towed the 150,000 pound space shuttle Endeavour across the 450 freeway in Inglewood California. 

“We’ve partnered with the California Science Center since the early '90s as part of our ongoing commitment to inspiring youth in the fields of engineering, innovation and future technology, and we are honored to lend our support for this historic event,” said Michael Rouse, vice president of community affairs and philanthropy for Toyota.

The 2012 Tundra CrewMax 4x4 with Toyota’s 5.7-liter iForce V8, producing 381 horsepower was used to tow this massive space craft.  The truck used to tow the Endeavour was purchased from a Southern California Toyota dealer, with no modifications or special equipment added for the tow. 

Riding along was Garrett Reisman, one of the astronauts aboard the orbiter when it traveled to the International Space Station in 2008. From start to finish, it took 5 minutes to cross the bridge.

Volkswagen is proud to have supported Parkinson’s sufferer and athlete with two Touareg SUVs

Volkswagen of America helped guided Alex Flynn with two Touareg SUV's after approximately 3500 miles of cycling running and kayaking across America to support a great cause. Flynn arrived in New Your City at the end of his mission to increase awareness and to raise funds to find a cute.

Flynn said: “I truly never thought I would still have the energy left to make it to the finish. My legs are testament to the fact that we are all capable of anything in our lifetime, regardless of what challenges we face. I am in awe of all of the support I have had, from The Michael J. Fox Foundation and Volkswagen to the deVere Group, Orbea, the Clorex Group, Garmin, Saucony, Buff, and OMM. We couldn’t have done it without the Touaregs: they were the perfect cycling support vehicles.”

Flynn, a trained athlete diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease, departed from Santa Monica, Calif. on Wednesday, September 5 and finished in New York City on October 10. The Trans America Challenge is one of a series of endurance events that Flynn will tackle in his mission to travel 6,213 miles and raise $1.5 million for Parkinson’s research by 2014.

Red Bull Stratos - Rescheduled

The much anticipated launch that would break 4 different world record was delayed until Thursday because of severe winds. Felix Baumgartner was surprised and disappointed that his attempt to become the first person to break the sound barrier in freefall had to be scrapped due to gusts of wind near the top of his 30 million cubic foot balloon. 

Here are is what Felix said...

"When Art told me we were aborting the mission I thought it was a joke," said Baumgartner. "I thought there is no way, that the conditions were not right. I couldn't tell what was happening with the balloon because I was in the capsule. I want this to happen this year. We've made it so far. There's no turning back. We're here, we've got the helium and 
we're good to go. Whether that's tomorrow or the first day next week, I don't really care."

Meterologist Don Day will present his latest analysis of the weather outlook at a briefing tentatively scheduled for 9 a.m. in Roswell on Wednesday.

SEMA Mustang Build Powered by Women

Historic Project Vehicle to be Auctioned on eBay beginning October 30, 2012

The SEMA Mustang Build Powered By Women, better known as “High Gear,” will debut in the Ford Motor Company booth on Tuesday, October 30 at 10:00 a.m., the opening day of the 2012 SEMA Show in Las Vegas, Nevada. The 2013 Mustang GT made national headlines during the summer when more than 40 women volunteered their time and expertise to customize the vehicle in less than two months. Immediately after the unveiling, the vehicle will be auctioned to raise funds for the SEMA Memorial Scholarship Fund. Details about the auction are available at www.sema.org/auctions.

“The SEMA Mustang Build is truly inspiring,” said Marla Moore, SEMA Businesswomen’s Network (SBN) Chair. “The SBN is honored to host this historic project. We’re now excited to unveil and share the final creation with the industry at the upcoming SEMA Show.”

The SBN launched the project to showcase the talented women of the automotive industry. With SEMA and Ford Motor Co. teaming up for the build, an additional 40-plus SEMA member companies donated products and services, which includes custom paint, customized wheels, a custom leather interior, high performance suspension, and a new supercharger autographed by industry legend Vic Edelbrock.

“This project could not have happened without the amazing support of SEMA, Ford Motor Company, Source Interlink Media along with the many manufacturers who provided product for the Mustang and our awesome women build team members” said Rose Kawasaki, SBN Vehicle Build Task Force Chair.

“This project has confirmed the fact that there are a group of passionate female enthusiasts in our industry and this was an ideal undertaking to showcase their talent,” said Doug Evans, Executive VP for Source Interlink Media (SIM). SIM, which publishes dozens of leading automotive magazines including Hot Rod Magazine, was an active partner in the SEMA Mustang Build, which hosted much of the build at its headquarters in El Segundo, California.

Endeavour Space Shuttle - Towed by Toyota Tundra

Toyota Tundra to Tow Endeavour Space Shuttle Over 405 Freeway on Manchester Bridge

The Toyota Tundra will be towing the space shuttle Endeavour over the 405 Freeway instead of the previously announced route along Bill Robertson Lane in Los Angeles. The tow will assist the California Science Center Foundation in the movement of the historic icon over the Manchester Boulevard Bridge, an area that requires a different tow mechanism than other portions of the route for weight distribution purposes. In preparation to assist in any capacity needed, the Tundra was extensively tested to meet the requirements. This tow of Endeavour by the Toyota Tundra at this location will be the only one its kind taking place along the route.
